German exam preparation courses

The TestDaF (Test für Deutsch als Fremdsprache) is the official examination used for non-native speakers interested in studying at a German university. It covers the various skills required for studying in German including understanding conferences and seminars, as well as taking part in academic discussions. Many of our partner schools in Germany offer courses specially designed to prepare you for the TestDaF. The exam takes place at the end of your course, although you can also choose to sit the exam in an exam centre elsewhere. The TestDaF is recognized internationally as an official language examination and will enable you to make progress in the scientific, professional or academic world in a German-speaking country.

You can sit the TestDaF on one of the six set dates each year, anywhere around the world. The exam can only be taken in person in an official examination centre. You can get an application form to register for the exam at an official test centre or download one from the TestDaF Institute's website

The ÖSD (Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch) or Austrian Diploma in German is an approved German foreign language examination. The ÖSD has different exams for each of the six levels that relate to A1 to C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Each level tests listening, reading, writing and speaking skills.

You must be above 14 years old to sit this exam, which you can do in the central office in Vienna or in any of the 300 official examination centres around the world. Exam dates vary from centre to centre so you will need to check the options with the centre in which you intend to take the exam.

Telc stands for "The European Language Certificates." The telc language test was developed as an standardized test corresponding to the Common European Framework Reference for Languages (CEFR). It was orginally designed as a test of German language, but today exists for ten languages. The exam tests the student’s listening, writing and speaking ability to establish the student’s level according to the CEFR from A1 to C2 level.

Telc results are recognized by educational institutions and are a transparent way to certify language knowledge for potential employers and government authorities. The German test is associated with the German federal government’s immigration and visa requirements. For those wishing to apply to immigrate to Germany, results can be used to prove German language skills.

The telc exam has multiple exam dates throughout the year and can be taken at more than 3,000 telc partner institutions in over 20 countries. A telc exam preparation course taken in a student’s chosen language to help them focus on key testing areas can significantly improve results.
